The fire protection systems are complicated and involve a couple different trades, each trade takes care of certain components of your system.
How do you know who to call? Well, that is where things can get a little confusing. So we are here to help! First, let’s talk about the parts of your system.
There is the fire panel itself, it has a list of areas and lights that indicate which area is experiencing trouble. Typically they look something like this:
When there is a light indicating a problem on this panel, then you need to call an electrician or fire protection company. The trouble indicated on the panel will need to be addressed before we can assist.
your ulc monitoring
Part 2 of this system is communication with the monitoring station.
If there are no lights indicating a problem on the fire panel itself, that is when we can help. There are other reasons for your system to have an error. Some of those issues will resolve themselves, such as power loss. The system will restore when the power comes back on. Sometimes it can be phone-line issues causing spotty communication. There are solutions that can eliminate that issue altogether. (if that sounds good to you, ask us how!)
Inspection of your system on a yearly basis usually addresses any issues that come up and it’s part of why we do them. Keeping your system in peak health is important.
Final Thoughts
It might be tempting to open the panel and try to re-set it yourself. Please, never do that. Leave this to the professionals, it does trigger an alarm.
